I made sure she had a sunny childhood, doing my bit to keep the rainclouds away. To divert dogs that might bite, boys that were too rough, girls with mean streaks. She had been such a lovely baby, and what are godmothers (especially ones like me) for? Her father marvels at the charmed life she has led. If only he knew!
