Hard white floors, escalators, scent of perfume, but underneath, permeating the windows and doors, the smell of aeroplane fuel.

Bright lights, feeling sticky, clutching onto the passport and boarding card for dear life and walking, so much walking.

A smile, a nod, an exchange.

Air at last, tarmac underfoot, up the narrow stairs, sitting in, clicking the belt and waiting.

And I’m off.
