The silver was polished and buffed, the shirts and pinnies starched. Mr Wright bustled around, butting heads with all the servants, and even pushing the Master to one side during a particularly brusque spell.

Hannah shuddered and shook all throughout the day of the dinner party. She felt ill as she toted the crystal gravy boat to the table, her hand trembling.

When she came to, the first thing she saw were the shards of glass in his lordship’s lap.
